The Mattapoisett Land Trust offers grants and scholarships to individuals and organizations in Mattapoisett.
Education Grants
MLT Educator Grant Application

The mission of the MLT Education Committee is to enhance students’ environmental awareness and encourage stewardship through field trips, scientific exploration, and environmental research. Through Educator Grant funding, we aim to provide support to programs reaching Mattapoisett school children of all ages in support of our mission. Priority will be given to projects that maximize their student impact and environmental benefit.

Timelines for Educator Grant Applications
Spring 2025 Applications will be accepted until March 14th, 2025
Final Spring Award notifications will be issued by April 1st, 2025

Fall 2025 Applications accepted September 1st – October 1st 2025
Fall Award notifications will be issued by October 15th, 2025

Your project has to be completed and funds spent by the end of the school year for which you have applied.

Please note that ORR School District regulations require that all funding grant applications be approved by a principal and/or department administrator before being submitted. Additionally, after a grant is awarded, the funding must then be approved by the School Committee before you may access these funds. This process may take up to 45 days.

Educator Grant application requirements include:
• general educational purpose and goals of the project
• learning activities provided by the project
• how the project meets the mission of the MLT Education Committee
• number of students impacted by the project
• a detailed budget

The MLT Education Committee reserves the right to attend/observe any MLT-funded activity. All funded projects must be publicized with funding credit given to MLT Education Committee. Awardees must also submit a final report upon completion of the project. Additional details are provided in the Grant Award notification.

Individual applicant awards up to $500
Collaborative, cross-curriculum projects for entire grade awards up to $3000

Blanche B. Perry Scholarship

The Mattapoisett Land Trust selects a qualifying candidate each year for the $1000.00 Blanche B. Perry Scholarship Award. This award is available to a Mattapoisett resident senior graduating from secondary school by June 2023, and pursuing an education in the sciences and/or environmental studies or a related field.

The scholarship is made available through the Edith Glick Shoolman fund, a bequest left to provide support for children in the community. The application deadline is April 27, 2023. Application forms are available in the guidance offices at the local public and private schools or at the link below.

Applicants will be assessed according to academic achievement, pursuit of education in the sciences, and or environmental studies or a related field, personal statement, professional and personal references, community service, and financial need. Preference will be given to individuals who are members of the Mattapoisett Land Trust or whose parents or grandparents are members of the MLT.

The recipient will be notified by mail by May 19, 2023. The recipient will be recognized at his or her school’s awards ceremony. The award will be disbursed after the student submits an official college transcript documenting successful completion of his or her first semester in college to the President of the Mattapoisett Land Trust.

Priscilla Hathaway Art Scholarship

The Mattapoisett Land Trust is seeking applicants for their one thousand dollars 

“Priscilla Hathaway Art Scholarship”.

A COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP FOR A SENIOR/SECONDARY STUDENT RESIDING IN MATTAPOISETT

Priscilla was a professional artist, teacher, and environmentalist as well as co-founder of the Mattapoisett Land Trust.  She was a sailor and helped “save the seas” as a bay watcher with the Buzzards Bay Coalition. Priscillia was very interested in Native American Artifacts. She loved the outdoors, especially the woods, beaches, and sand.

This award will be granted to a Mattapoisett resident interested in keeping with the core values that Priscilla Hathaway exemplified and is a graduating senior from ORR by June 2023. The scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Brad Hathaway and his family.
