SUMMARY:New! Mindfulness Walk
DESCRIPTION:We are bringing back mindfulness walks with a new instructor: Kathleen Urquhart! Spend time in the more than human world in the MLT’s Old Aucoot District. Join Kathleen\, who will lead you though 90 minutes of quiet nature-focused time\, based on the Kripalu Center’s approach to mindfulness outdoors. Carve some quiet time for yourself in the outdoors. \nThe session will be on Tuesday\, August 20th from 9:00-10:30am beginning from the kiosk on the end of Bowman Road\, at the Grace Meadow Preserve within the Old Aucoot District. Drive to the end of Bowman Road and there will be plenty of parking around the kiosk. \nThe session will involve some gentle movement\, slow walking over uneven terrain and participants will be invited to sit on the ground for a short period of time. This session is open to adults who are comfortable with the mobility described. Please bring a towel to sit on and suncreen or bug repellent if that will make you more comfortable. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. \nFor our first mindfulness walk back in a while\, we hope you will understand that attendance is limited. Once we’re back up and running on a normal schedule\, we’ll be able to allow for more attendees. For this walk\, registration is required and once the sign ups are full we are not able to take more.

SUMMARY:Silent Movie Night: Down to the Sea in Ships!
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an open-air silent movie at Munro Preserve in collaboration with the Mattapoisett Museum. \nThough Patience Morgan is sought by many suitors\, her father\, Charles\, insists that she marry a man who is both Quaker and a whaleman. Because Samuel Siggs convincingly poses as both\, he is favored by Charles Morgan–even though Patience loves Allan Dexter\, who is neither. Allan embraces the Quaker faith\, proves himself worthy as a whaleman when he is captured and tossed by stormy seas\, and returns to New Bedford just as she is about to marry Siggs. \nThe film contains semi-documentary footage of whalers at work and was shot in historic locations in New England\, most notably in New Bedford\, at the Apponegansett Meeting House in Dartmouth\, and on Water Street in Mattapoisett. \nThe authenticity of the whaling scenes are noted in the opening screen credits\, which praise the bravery of both A.G. Penrod and Paul H. Allen\, the cameramen\, “who\, in small boats\, stood by their cameras at the risk of their lives to photograph the fighting whales.” The Charles W. Morgan and the Wanderer were two of the whaling ships used in the film. \nPlease bring your own blanket or chairs to sit on\, relax\, and enjoy the show. This event is free and open to the public thanks to the Mattapoisett Museum’s sponsorship from Check Collision/Toyota of Dartmouth.
