DESCRIPTION:Join Mattapoisett Land Trust for a poetry reading at our Dunseith Gazebo. Hear the work of local\, professional poets and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of Dunseith Gardens\, home of Salty the Seahorse located on the Corner of North Street and Main Street. This is one of many “Arts in MLT Parks” programs organized by Mattapoisett Land Trust that you will see this summer. \nOur ‘headlining’ poets will include: Ellen Flynn\, Elizabeth Sylvia\, Margot Wizansky\, and Betty Jean Nooth. \nAfter our poets share their work\, we will allow time for a handful of audience members to share work of their own. Please contact Colleen Andrews at manager@mattlandtrust.org if you are interested in sharing your work. Constraints: please keep your poem to 1 page or less\, and under 10 minutes when read aloud. We will select 5 audience members ahead of time to share their work. Due to time constraints\, we cannot allow for people to share without scheduling with Colleen first. DESCRIPTION:MLT has recently ‘gone green’ with our stewardship and trail maintenance equipment. In light of research on the pollution caused by 2-cycle engines\, MLT had a board motion this winter to purchase battery operated tools to maintain our trails. Thanks to a grant from Eversource and a generous donation from a private donor\, we were able to buy all new equipment! \nCome to Dunseith Gardens on the corner of Rt. 6 and North St. on Sunday June 25th at 10:00am for an Electric Tools Workshop with MLT. Ask questions\, see the equipment\, and see demonstrations of the equipment. We hope to educate people on the benefits of switching from 2-cycle equipment to battery powered and will be showing off some of the newest battery powered technology available from Stihl. This will be a great opportunity of land owners\, landscapers\, and gardeners alike! \nRSVP below. Coffee provided!

DESCRIPTION:MLT is partnering for the second year with the Mattapoisett Council on Aging for an acessible senior hike. This year we are going to be taking a walk at the Munn Preserve\, which is at the end of Mattapoisett Neck Rd. right before Antassawomack Rd. The hike will start at 10:30am. Please wear sturdy walking shoes and dress for the weather. We will try and go out rain or shine\, within reason. We will be walking the trail out to the beach and back\, which is roughly 1 mile total. \nThe trail itself is very wide and flat\, surfaced with crushed shells. Some spots may be muddy. The end of the trail is a beach with soft sand and has one memorial bench for sitting. Please consider your mobility needs. The Council on Aging van will also be available at the hike for those who are not able to walk the distance to the beach and would prefer to ride in the van to the scenic lookout point on the beach and back. SUMMARY:Annual Vernal Pool Walk
DESCRIPTION:Vernal pools are a vital breeding habitat for resident amphibians and invertebrates such as wood frogs\, spotted and blue-spotted salamanders\, and fairy shrimp. The MLT is once again offering an introduction to vernal pools through a field trip into the Tinkhamtown Woodlands on MLT’s Woodcock Preserve. \nOn Saturday\, April 15\, at 1:00 p.m.\, we’ll meet at the Tinkhamtown Woodlands parking area on Long Plain Road. We´ll proceed a short distance on the trail to the vernal pool. Together we will have fun learning about vernal pools and exploring a particularly productive one. \nThe exploration is free and open to all\, including residents of other towns. Rubber boots or hiking shoes are recommended.

DESCRIPTION:We’re setting off to find where the leprechauns have hidden their gold this St. Patrick’s Day. Come along with the Mattapoisett Land Trust as we search for the treasure on a hike in the woods.  \nBring the family out after school and wear your green! We are meeting at 3pm at the Oliver Wendell Holmes Junior parking lot on Angelica Ave. and will embark on our quest for the leprechauns’ gold. Our journey will only be about 1 mile\, but please wear sturdy shoes and appropriate outdoor clothing.

SUMMARY:Afternoon Dog Walk with MLT
DESCRIPTION:Join the Mattapoisett Land Trust for a walk\, and bring your four-legged friends! We’ve hosted some walks for our human supporters before\, but now we want to include our canine supporters too. On Friday\, March 10th\, we will meet at 4pm the MLT kiosk on Anchorage Way and walk the Brandt Island Cove loop trail\, about 1.5 miles altogether. \nMLT has plenty of trails around town that are great for long walks out in the woods with your dogs that we’d love to share with you. We’ll tell you about some of our favorites while we walk. \nDogs must be leashed\, under voice control and picked up after.

DESCRIPTION:Don’t get stuck inside during school vacation week. Come join us for a hike followed by hot chocolate and a campfire!  \nWe’re offering a morning of hiking and hot chocolate from 10:00 – 11:30am on Monday Feb. 20th. Bring the family and meet us at the Holmes Foundation parking lot on Angelica Ave. We’ll take a walk on the trail (about a mile) and return to where we started for a toasty campfire and some hot chocolate. Please dress for the weather. Rubber boots or snow boots recommended. This is free and open to all. \nIf there is inclement weather on Monday Feb. 20th\, the rain date for this event will be Wednesday Feb. 22nd. same time and place.
