SUMMARY:Native Seed Planting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Establishing native plants in our community helps provide habitat and food for native pollinators\, like birds\, bees\, and other insects. Join Mattapoisett Land Trust at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library for a free Native Seed Planting Workshop! We’re so excited to share our knowledge of native plants and flowers and teach people methods for sowing\, growing\, and caring for their own native seedlings. \nThe workshop will be on Saturday January 20th from 10:00-11:00am downstairs in the Community Meeting Room at the library. The only thing that we ask you to bring are two (2) clean and empty plastic gallon jugs. Every attendee will need their own gallon jugs for planting. We’ll provide everything else (seeds\, soil\, etc.)! \nLand trust volunteers will be there to teach you how to create your own greenhouse out of your plastic jug where you will plant seeds and then let them germinate over the winter. There will be a variety of native seeds to plant with and knowledgable volunteers to answer your native seed questions. We’ll have seeds for native flowers that enjoy full-sun\, full-shade\, dry soil\, wet soil\, with differing heights\, bloom timeframes\, and colors – we will have it all! Click here to see our seed list. \nFollowing this workshop\, we plan to host a Re-potting Workshop in the spring once all of your seeds have sprouted and are ready to be transplanted. The date of this follow up workshop will be annouced during our planting workshop. \nThe capacity for this workshop is limited to 20 attendees so please RSVP early. If plans change and you need to give up your spot\, please email manager@mattlandtrust.org so we can open it up for someone else.

SUMMARY:Arts in MLT Parks: Poetry in the Gazebo
DESCRIPTION:Join Mattapoisett Land Trust for a poetry reading at our Dunseith Gazebo. Hear the work of local\, professional poets and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of Dunseith Gardens\, home of Salty the Seahorse located on the Corner of North Street and Main Street. This is one of many “Arts in MLT Parks” programs organized by Mattapoisett Land Trust that you will see this summer. \nOur ‘headlining’ poets will include: Ellen Flynn\, Elizabeth Sylvia\, Margot Wizansky\, and Betty Jean Nooth. \nAfter our poets share their work\, we will allow time for a handful of audience members to share work of their own. Please contact Colleen Andrews at manager@mattlandtrust.org if you are interested in sharing your work. Constraints: please keep your poem to 1 page or less\, and under 10 minutes when read aloud. We will select 5 audience members ahead of time to share their work. Due to time constraints\, we cannot allow for people to share without scheduling with Colleen first. First come\, first served via email. \nEven if you don’t want to read\, we encourage those interested in this relaxing and thought-provoking morning to attend and listen. \nRefreshments will be provided. Please bring a picnic blanket or folding chair for seating. \n

SUMMARY:Electric Tools Workshop
DESCRIPTION:MLT has recently ‘gone green’ with our stewardship and trail maintenance equipment. In light of research on the pollution caused by 2-cycle engines\, MLT had a board motion this winter to purchase battery operated tools to maintain our trails. Thanks to a grant from Eversource and a generous donation from a private donor\, we were able to buy all new equipment! \nCome to Dunseith Gardens on the corner of Rt. 6 and North St. on Sunday June 25th at 10:00am for an Electric Tools Workshop with MLT. Ask questions\, see the equipment\, and see demonstrations of the equipment. We hope to educate people on the benefits of switching from 2-cycle equipment to battery powered and will be showing off some of the newest battery powered technology available from Stihl. This will be a great opportunity of land owners\, landscapers\, and gardeners alike! \nRSVP below. Coffee provided!

The end of the trail is a beach with soft sand and has one memorial bench for sitting. Please consider your mobility needs. The Council on Aging van will also be available at the hike for those who are not able to walk the distance to the beach and would prefer to ride in the van to the scenic lookout point on the beach and back. Waters will be provided. \n  \nWe hope to see you there! Please RSVP by clicking “I will be going” below. \nContact MLT or the Mattapoisett Council on Aging with questions.
