SUMMARY:Forest Stewardship and Climate Resiliency at Brandt Island Cove District
DESCRIPTION:Come join Mattapoisett Land Trust and forester Kate Marquis as she discusses the climate resiliency enhancement project currently underway at Brandt Island Cove District. On this hike you will learn how the project will maintain the cove’s unique forest structure\, increase wildlife habitat characteristics\, increase soil nutrients\, and reduce diseased trees while protecting water quality. \nKate Marquis is a professional forester with over 15 years of experience working alongside landowners who care about the long-term health of their forests. Her work focuses on strengthening the forest function and resilience so these landscapes can continue to provide wildlife habitat and ecological value in a rapidly changing climate. \nHer management approach is rooted in site-specific observation\, practical management\, and understanding forests respond over decades. Only the worst weather will cancel an MLT walk – please dress in waterproof boots and warm layers.
